Boy, I really should try and get better at posting here on a regular basis. I think I did one post all year. I’ll see if I can’t increase that to at least two in 2026.
This year’s eligibility post is far different than last years! I only have one published story this time, unlike last year’s six (it was a banner year frankly, and though none of the stories were nominated for anything, I remain deeply proud of the work published in 2024). This year, though, I get to add my first published poem to my eligibility list! And now our work with Trollbreath Magazine qualifies us for stuff.
Let’s break it down….
– Stories –
Fox and Troll Bake a Cake (novellette, GigaNotoSaurus, Feb, 2025)
My only published story in 2025, but it’s a follow up to Cóyotl award nominated Fox and Troll Steal Math, also published at GigaNotoSaurus. I love these characters and certainly hope other people enjoy the stories as much as I love writing them.
– Poems –
When the Clubs Close (poem, 21 lines, Worlds of Possibility, April, 2025)
I never expected to sell a poem, and was deeply thrilled when Julia Rios bought this light confection I tossed out one night while reading an article on the famous (infamous?) New York club scene of the 70’s and 80’s. All those pictures made me think of vampires and sirens and other mythical creatures, and well… here we are.
– Editing/Magazine –
This is the first year of eligibility for Trollbreath Magazine, which is co-edited by myself and my amazing wife, Jennifer. Whether it’s as “Best Editors: Short Form,” or “Best Semiprozine,” we’d be thrilled if anyone considered us at all for those rewards.
But also, our authors! The stories and poems from the Spring, Summer, and Fall issues are already all free to read, so there’s no excuse not to spend some time enjoying what these fabulous writers have provided for your entertainment. The Winter issue just dropped, so you can subscribe and read of all THOSE great works (and trust me, there’s some truly outstanding and award-worthy work in this issue; all of these will be released over the coming weeks to the public but are currently for subscribers only, so please consider helping support our work).
